Emma Watson’s dating life has been subject of public scrutiny since she was old enough to date, thanks to her childhood rise to fame.

While the British actress has been linked to a few romantic interests over the years, she hasn’t been a fan of high-profile romances and has managed to keep her dating life relatively private.
But that changed in July 2024, when the Harry Potter star was photographed with a new boyfriend—her fellow Oxford University scholar, Kieran Brown.
Who is Kieran Brown?
Kieran Brown is currently completing a PhD in 19th century literature and economics at Oxford University, where Emma Watson is completing a Masters in creative writing.

“Emma is studying creative writing, and his thesis is all about literary theory—so they have a lot to talk about. She looks so loved up with Kieran,” a source told The Sun.
Another source also reported that Brown is unfazed by Emma Watson’s celebrity status.
“Kieran isn’t fazed by Emma’s fame in the slightest, which is what she likes about him most,” a source told OK! Magazine.
“They do very normal things together, like grab coffee before class or cook dinner in their apartments.”

Watson previously spoke about her decision to return to study in an interview with British Vogue in 2023.
“Because I’m in a career that moves very quickly, the decision to take time to do these things felt like a very big decision,” she explained. “[Choosing] to go back and write and study and get behind the camera was terrifying for me because I’d never done it before. I had always been in front of the camera; I’d always been an actor.”
Is he Emma Watson’s husband?
While the couple do look loved up in the photo of them kissing, there hasn’t been any talk of marriage yet. As Emma Watson is typically very private about her private life, it’s unclear how long Kieran Brown has even been her partner.
It’s probably also worth considering that people are getting married for the first time at older ages in the UK. Official data shows the average age to get married was 31 in 2020 and was still trending upwards. Emma Watson only turned 34 in 2024 and has never had a husband – but we’ll have to wait and see what happens with her current partner.

Who Else Has Emma Watson Dated?
Watson split from her ex-boyfriend, Brandon Green last year. Brandon is the son of business tycoon, Sir Phillip Green.
While she has been linked to businessman Leo Robinton, actor Chord Overstreet, Silicon Valley businessman William “Mack” Knight, Oxford University rugby star Matt Janney and Oxford classmate Will Adamowicz, Watson has also spoken openly about being single.
In 2019, she referred to herself as ‘self-partnered’ during an interview with British Vogue.
In 2023, Watson spoke about the comment and said it wasn’t “necessarily about me celebrating being single. Getting to the point when I was 30, I was realizing, ‘Oh, maybe I’ve figured out some things about how to care for myself better—maybe quite well, actually.’ And taking pride in that.”

In the 2019 interview, Watson shared how dating apps weren’t “on the cards” for her.
“Dating apps are not on the cards for me.” I’m very lucky in the sense that because I went to university and because I’ve done these other things outside of film, my friends are really good at setting me up. Really good. And what’s really nice is some of my best friends are people I got set up on a date with and it didn’t work out.”
