SUGAR COOKIE RECIPE

Have mentioned before my LOVE for all things cookies? I have shared several cookie recipes here on The Idea Room over the years…and this is one of my favorites! They are made with sour cream. This sugar cookie recipe is the perfect cookie when you need to make cut out shapes. They don’t spread and hold their shape really well.

BUTTERCREAM FROSTING

These cookies are fun because you can add any flavor of frosting that you want. It tastes great with Chocolate frosting, Vanilla frosting or more flavored frostings like Peppermint Buttercream Frosting.

SOFT SUGAR COOKIE RECIPE

These cookies are so easy to freeze. You can make them ahead of time and freeze a large batch of them to frost for later. You can also freeze the dough. Just set it out on the counter and let it thaw before rolling it out to cut the shapes later.

How do you soften sugar cookie dough? ›

Take the cookie dough out of the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 15-30 minutes. This allows the fats in the dough (like butter) to soften, making the dough more pliable. Gently knead the dough with your hands. This helps distribute warmth and encourages the fats to soften.

What makes cookies chewy and not hard? ›

If you enjoy your cookies soft and chewy, chances are likely the recipe contains a common ingredient that serves a very specific purpose. No, it's not granulated sugar, nor the butter.
