I just now realized that the Imperial Reconquest CBs are tiered. To get to Tier 2, it says the requirement is "Byzantine Empire completely controlled"
Does this mean de jure Byzantine Empire or all the territory the Byzantine Empire holds, regardless if it's de jure or not? For some reason, I've been assuming it means only de jure Byzantine Empire. I'm absolutely 100% sure I have control of all of de jure Byzantium and I still can't advance past tier 1 of Imperial Conquest. However, I just thought that there's definitely a few independent baronies in non de jure territory.
I'm wondering if I'm experiencing a bug here, or if non-de jure counts as well?

IIRC tier 2 also requires you to control Antioch (the duchy).

Hmmm. It doesn't mention that in the requirements, but I have Antioch. However, I never checked if Antioch is completely controlled. I'll check it, though.

It means that not everything that is e_byzantium de jure is completely controlled by you. You're missing something.

Even after 2 years or so of playing the game, I still find myself a newbie at many things; what do these Tiers even do conquest-wise?

They unlock a duchy-level conquest CB for the Byzzies or the Restored Roman Empire, on any Duchy located inside the unlocked tiers in your individual game

The descriptions beyond the first tier don't seem to be accurate in my game. I jumped from Tier 1 to Tier 3, but didn't get the CBs on Croatia and Sicily until after conquering Armenia (and I found that CB only by clicking around). After conquering Sicily and Croatia, I got to Tier 4 in the intrigue tab, but didn't get the CBs until after conquering Corsica (again, found by clicking around). And now I don't have the CBs for Ifriqa but only for the other requierements of Tier 4...

Pardon the double post, but thinking about it... due to dejure drift, Imperial Reconquest can be easily screwed up. It would be easier to use regions, now that those exist, to model the areas of reconquest. That way, you don't get issues later on when titles end up titular or other things. Wouldn't be too hard to re-write.

Most the time someone has trouble with the IR cb is because some Christian catholic subject of yours has allowed for a catholic holy order to have one of his castles.

That's correct. We eventually need to re-encode the IR tiers into regions for the vanilla map and SWMH map. It should make the two versions of the CBs able to combine back into one and greatly simplify the CB.

At tier 5 you get a CB on Mauretania, but k_mauretania in SWMH is to the south from the Roman Mauretania. The CB should probably be on k_maghreb.

So I did an Alexiad start and I've reconquered the Empire of Basil II, only including all of de jure Armenia, Al Jazir, Antioch and the duchies of Sicily (technically a county) and Naples. Upper Serbia has a lot of KoJ holdings, but I think I'm about to force a union with KoJ because my wife is the only heir of the aging Elected KoJ. Hopefully. When I take the KoJ, and those castles in Serbia become mine, will I be able to push in to Sicily without doing bloodline dances? The KoJ and a collapsing Egypt are both Crusader kingdoms, so my urge to push south and west is getting seriously frustrated by a lack of CBs.

You still need to take Bosnia and Croatia first. Sardinia (and Corsica) too.

Done.
One of my vassals invented a Kingdom of Dioclea that is now being de-jure re-integrated. Will that mess it up?

Nope! If the title is titular, you automatically completely control it (as far as I know, anyway).
