MTB Shoes - Mountain Bike Shoes (MTB) are durable enough for riding both indoors and out. MTB shoes are SPD^®-compatible, so SPD^® cleats will fit to your cycling shoes and clip-in to your Spinner^® bike very easily.

Flat-pedal mountain bike shoes have historically stuck with more heavily padded, skate-inspired designs, but Five Ten bucked the trend a few years ago and released the Trailcross line, which took styling and design cues from the trail running world to form a shoe that acted as a sort of hybrid hiking and cycling shoe.

Good cycling shoes are stiff, snug, and supportive. Unlike running shoes, a roomy forefoot isn't necessary since the foot does not roll forward while pedaling. About 1.5 cm of toe room should be plenty. Stiff soles and snug shoes stabilize the foot, but they should not be so tight that they pinch.

Sizing and Fit

I sized down a half size to get the normal fit/feel compared to my other Five Ten shoes, and was glad that I did so. Five Ten offers the Trailcross Clip-in in a range of US Men's 7 to 15, with half sizes up to a size 13, and in a women's version with half sizes from 6.5 to 11.

Tip #1: It all depends on the shoe length

Since there is no rolling movement when cycling as when walking or running, the foot does not need any additional space in the front of the shoe. A few millimetres of space in front of the big toes in the cycling shoe is completely sufficient.

Should cycling shoes fit snug? While it's suggested to size up if you're between sizes, cycling shoes are intended to wrap snuggly around the foot.

Cycling socks should be thin because they must fit comfortably into your well-fitted cycling shoes. Don't stuff thick socks into your cycling shoes, and don't buy larger cycling shoes to fit thicker socks into. If your feet hurt while riding, you probably don't need extra cushioning, but better-fitting cycling shoes.

It would be misleading to say these will keep your feet 100% dry, as there's no webbing to the tongue, so going through deep water or prolonged rain will still lead to damp feet, but in the general rain you'll not suffer. If you're expecting rain, team them up with waterproof socks and you'll be laughing.

Look for labels such as GORE-TEX, eVent, Outdry (Extreme), Omni-tech, PRIMALOFT (Gold and Silver), POLARTEC, Keen Dry, TimberDry, ClimaProof, M-Select DRY and TERREX. Shoes with these standards and technologies will keep your feet dry, and your shoes will not get damaged by water.
